Report: Mexican president rejects calls for UN peacekeepers in border city

Mexico-Peacekeepers

MEXICO CITY (AP) - Reporters traveling with Mexican President Felipe Calderon say he has rejected a call by business groups in the border city of Ciudad Juarez for United Nations peacekeepers to quell a bloody wave of drug-fueled violence there.
Calderon is flying to Singapore to participate in an economic forum.
The Notimex news agency quotes Calderon as rejecting the proposal, saying "these are issues of domestic security."
The president's office confirmed the tenor of the remarks Thursday but said it could not immediately provide a transcript.
The business groups say violence has gotten so bad in Ciudad Juarez that many firms are leaving the city. The city of 1.5 million has seen about 2,000 drug-related homicides so far this year.
