White apologizes for ‘vandalism’

Olympic gold medal snowboarder Shaun White apologized on Sept. 18 for “unwise choices” that led to him being charged with public intoxication and vandalism after police said he pulled a fire alarm and caused the evacuation of a Tennessee hotel.

“I want to apologize for the unwise choices I made over the weekend and for any inconvenience it caused my family, friends, business partners, the hotel and their guests,” he wrote on his Facebook page. “I was celebrating a happy occasion with a ton of family and friends and got carried away. I’m truly sorry for my poor behavior.”

Police officers received the call about the fire alarm on Sept. 17. A bystander kept White from fleeing in a cab and told the driver he was going to call police. “When White overheard their conversation, he allegedly kicked the citizen and fled on foot,” police said in a statement.
