Syrian football player Musa el-Favaz Bedran has taken refuge in Turkey to escape his war-torn country of Syria, and is now dreaming of playing for one of Turkey’s clubs.

The 16-year-old avid Fenerbahçe fan is a close follower of the Dutch forward Dirk Kuyt. He hopes to be discovered and later play for his dream team, a goal he had to suspend when his house was struck about two months ago.

Bedran then came to Turkey, where he “always dreamt he would play.”

“I follow Fenerbahçe. I love Dirk Kuyt. I was really sad when Alex left, but I really like Kuyt on the team now. I have dreamt of becoming a player since I was little. I hope I reach all my dreams here,” Bedran said.

He tried out for local teams in Şanlıurfa but problems with his official papers blocked his road to the professional leagues. However, he still continues to play.

“I didn’t give up and I continued to play,” Bedran said. “I believe I will play on a Turkish team despite everything.”
