Voting cards for Turkish presidential polls revealed

ISTANBUL

The election will be held over two rounds, with the first on Aug. 10. If no candidate receives over 50 percent of the vote in the first round, the second round will take place on Aug. 24.

The voting cards for the Aug. 10 Turkish presidential elections were unveiled on July 24. The three presidential candidates, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Selahattin Demirtaş and Ekmeleddin İhsanoğlu have been placed on the cards from left to right, respectively, as they prepare for Turkey’s first-ever presidential election by popular vote.

The leader of ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), Erdoğan has been prime minister since 2002 and will run against Demirtaş, the co-chair and the presidential candidate of Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP), and İhsanoğlu, the former secretary general of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and a joint candidate of nine opposition parties, including the Republican People’s Party (CHP) and Nationalist Movement Party (MHP).

All three candidates continued their campaigns on July 24, with İhsanoğlu speaking in Kayseri, Demirtaş’s scheduling a visit to Tekirdağ and the Yoğurtçu Park Forum in Istanbul’s Kadıköy district, and Erdoğan addressing a rally of his supporters in the Mediterranean province of Mersin.
