Village guard killed in PKK attack in Turkey’s southeast A village guard was killed in an attack by outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) militants in the southeastern province of Hakkari on July 6. 

Village guard Mehmet Genç was kidnapped by PKK militants while driving on the highway linking Hakkari and the neighboring eastern province of Van, according to a security source, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on speaking to the media. Genç’s body was later found by the highway, the source added. 

Village guards are local security personnel employed by Turkey in the fight against the PKK in the country’s eastern and southeastern provinces.
