Video reveals Okey leaving police station unconscious

Video footage of Festus Okey’s final minutes was recently released, showing Okey enter the police station in good health and being carried out unconscious and critically wounded 19 minutes later.

He later died in a nearby hospital. Okey was a Nigerian refugee residing in Istanbul.

Four years since his death, the police officer convicted of killing Okey was sentenced to 4 years and 2 months imprisonment for involuntary manslaughter. Certifying Okey’s identity stalled the legal process for three and a half years, causing a longer-than-normal trial.
