A police officer who was filmed beating a shopkeeper in Istanbul was suspended on May 20.The incident happened during a police operation on unregistered peddlers in the Fatih neighborhood of Istanbul. Shopkeeper Erol Polan claimed he was attacked by the unnamed police officer after he went out of his store and asked the police what was happening.
In security camera footage shared with the media, the police officer is seen slapping and kicking Polan. Istanbul Governor Hüseyin Avni Mutlu announced through his Twitter account that the policeman has been suspended and the incident is being investigated.
