Vet fined for beating Badem

MUĞLA - Anatolia News Agency
Marmaris District Gov. Serdar Polat announced March 5 that veterinarian Avni Gök, who was shown on video footage beating the Mediterranean monk seal named Badem, had been fined.

Polat said officials had learned about the situation when watching the footage animal lovers had sent to the District Governor’s Office, which showed the vet beating the monk seal with a stick during a training session in the Aegean town of Marmaris.

“We have fined him 1,848 Turkish Liras for violating the Law of Animal Protection,” Polat said.
The footage – which was also shown on social sharing websites recently – caused many animal lovers in the country to react.
