Uygur Yılmaz’s work at Art Sümer

Art Sümer is hosting Uygur Yılmaz’s solo show until Jan. 19. Yılmaz’s work focuses on liminality in terms of space and time.

It explores the less observed aspects of tourism and the flip side of leisure culture, studying popular beaches only in the off-season and sometimes at night. While social and political questions inevitably come into the frame, Yılmaz plays with the idea of emptiness and experiments with traces.

After the actors have left and the stage is surrendered to the forces of nature and time once again, his work seeks to observe the interaction between culture and environment, mind and space, and the structures imposed on the landscape.
