The U.S. Embassy to Turkey has issued a warning to its citizens in Turkey about potential violence, the Hürriyet Daily News has learned.

The embassy issued a warning letter for the attention of American citizens, reminding of the tension in the country that has been ongoing since last week.

The Daily News has also learned that U.S. Ambassador to Turkey Francis Ricciardone has canceled a trip to the U.S. due to the ongoing unrest in Turkey. He had been due to attend an American-Turkish Council meeting.

Meanwhile, the German Foreign Ministry has urged German citizens to stay away from demonstrations, according to German Embassy spokesman Peter Kettner.

Germany also called on Monday for calm and for dialogue in Turkey after days of clashes between anti-government protesters and police.

Thanks very much for your sentiments Mara. You'll probably know if I've been arrested, injured or killed, as there'll be no more comments from me on HDN defnding Fenerbahçe :) As for Duch Turk, well the nastiness of his comments, no matter what the topic is, no longer surprises me, but he has stooped to a new low by mocking terrorist attacks in which thousands of innocent people were killed - including from Turkey! He is consumed by hatred & bitterness, like most AKP bigots.

CILGIN Please keep us all informed and Godspeed. I will pray for your continued health and safety. The picture of the woman in the red dress that has her hair flying in the tear gas spray has made the front page in many newspapers. She looks really dangerous:) DUTCHTURK Turkey should be warning you against the dangers of American women instead.

There is no doubt in my mind that the Western media and representatives are blowing this out of proportion. Seems like Erdogan is not after all playing to their tune, as Kilicdaroglu tends to accuse. In fact, if nothing, these events have shown Kilicdaroglu to be the ordinary profiteer that he is. At no time did he call upon the protestors to go home.

I think all the American tourists and German Erasmus students taking pictures around Taksim Square have yet to receive this letter :) Ok slow down Dutch Turk, Lara Ulusoy, Mehmet UD & the rest of the crackpot conspiracy theorists, they really are just taking photos, and not actually instigating and directing the protests! I have been there every night since Saturday, and I have some very bad news for you - nobody is going anywhere until the dicktator resigns, no matter how much he gasses us.

Erdogan did many good things, but he promised to uphold the secular republic. When he got too confident, he started lecturing people in a secular state about morals and religion and heavily restricted drinking, wanted to ban abortion, bring religion into schools, destroy a park, not be clear about a peace process with Kurds, ignore Alevis, and then you get, of course - many angry youths.
