US approves new nuclear plant

The U.S. has approved its first new nuclear power reactors since 1978 despite objections from the country’s top regulator on safety issues raised by last year’s Fukushima meltdown.Commissioners of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission voted 4-1 to approve the construction of two reactors at Southern Co.’s existing nuclear facility in Georgia.
