The head of the Turkish Employment Organization (İŞKUR) has complained about the lack of interest among unemployed people for the thousands of open positions offered by the organization. 

“There were 176,000 open positions in April. We, however, could find appropriate candidates for just 70,000 positions and the remaining 100,000 positions were left open,” İŞKUR head Nusret Yazıcı said. 

He said the main reason for this was many unemployed people in Turkey lack a profession or vocation, based on a İŞKUR survey.

“This was followed by the dislike of wages and of working conditions among the people seeking employment, by 25 percent and 20 percent, respectively,” he said, adding the most open vacancies were in security, sales management and office management. 

Effect of Syrians in Turkey’s labor market to be examined 

Yazıcı also said İŞKUR will prepare a detailed report about the effects of Syrians on the Turkish labor market in line with the organization’s new role in the World Association of Public Employment Services (WAPES). 

“İŞKUR became the president of WAPES after it took the majority of the votes of similar organizations from 41 countries… WAPES has 94 members across the world… We’ll see the results of different employment policies and make an academic contribution to WAPES. We’ll also address several international facts… For instance, as WAPES members, we’ll prepare a detailed report about the effect of Syrians on Turkey’s labor markets,” he said. 

Yazıcı also said İŞKUR signed a protocol with the Employers’ Unions Confederation of Turkey (TİSK) for the name of the Global Apprenticeships Network (GAN) Turkey, so as to ease their access to GAN member employers. 

“GAN companies employ more than 100,000 people. We’ll offer significant incentives to these enterprises for apprentices who will be trained and employed by them under the framework of the ‘apprentice training program.’ We’ll be reaching a pool of enterprises thanks to this protocol,” he said.
