Two woman of 40 who were detained in police raids at various addresses in western Turkey over prostitution related crimes have tested HIV positive, while 16 men were arrested after the same operation.

A court in the touristic Kuşadası district of Turkey’s western province of Aydın on Oct. 12 arrested 16 suspects for forcing women to prostitution and providing a site for prostitution.

The ruling came after police conducted simultaneous raids on a number of houses and hotels, in which 40 women were also detained.

Of the 40 detained women, 34 were identified as foreigners, while two were tested to be HIV positive, two were infected with Hepatitis B, and one with Hepatitis C. The diagnosed women were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment and the rest were sent to the Aydın Immigration Office to be deported.
