One Turkish soldier killed, two wounded in PKK attack in Turkey’s Hakkari

One Turkish soldier killed, two wounded in PKK attack in Turkey’s Hakkari One soldier was killed and two were wounded in an outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) attack in the eastern province of Hakkari on July 10, Doğan News Agency has reported.

PKK militants attacked the Ormanlı Border Battalion Command in Hakkari’s Çıukurca district with mortar shells, the Hakkari Governor’s Office stated. 

One soldier was killed in the attack, while the wounded soldiers were taken to the Hakkari State Hospital for treatment. 

Meanwhile, two security officials were killed on July 9 in a PKK attack in the southern province of Hatay, a security source told state-run Anadolu Agency. 

The PKK launched the attack against a police checkpoint near Mustafa Kemal University, according to a security source who wanted to remain anonymous due to restrictions on talking to the media.

Three wounded officers received emergency treatment at the hospital, but two of them died, the official stated.        

The security forces have launched a wide-scale operation in the area after the attack.      
  
Meanwhile, 69 PKK militants were “neutralized” last week, according to the Interior Ministry.

Some 124 counter-terrorism operations were conducted by security forces across Turkey from July 3 to July 10, the ministry stated.
 
Some 555 suspects were detained as a result of operations by the Turkish army’s ground and air forces.

Another 47 out of 69 militants were killed, 15 surrendered, and seven were caught alive.

The ministry also stated that 96 of those detained had suspected links to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).

The authorities use the term “neutralized” to refer to militants who are killed, wounded or captured.
