Two high school students have turned sound energy into electric energy with the instruction of a teacher in the western province of Kütahya.

The students, namely Berkay Yıldız and Aydın Demirci from Kütahya’s Nafi Güral High School, came up with this invention thanks to a project coordinated by the school’s physics teacher Cahit Bardakçı.

The students collected the vibrations of various noisy sounds such as drum and clarion, and managed to light a prototypic bulb they made with the energy produced by these sounds. Bardakçı said the idea of this project belongs to the two students.

Professional availability

“After a brainstorm, we used ‘piezos,’ which produces electric energy with mechanical pressure, to turn to the sound energy into electrical energy. After these works, we made a prototype [bulb]. We will observe the bulb’s professional availability after its bigger versions are developed,” the instructor Bardakçı said.

“Noisy places such as major factories, concert areas, and stadiums can be used for large-scale electricity production,” Bardakçı added. One of the students, Aydın Demirci, said they conducted their studies in Kütahya Dumlupınar University’s laboratories.
