Two soldiers were killed on June 30 in an outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) attack in the Genç district of the eastern province of Bingöl.

An armed clash erupted between security forces and PKK militants in a rural area of Sağgözü village. One specialized sergeant immediately died in the scene while the other was taken to Bingöl State Hospital where he subsequently succumbed to his injuries.

The specialized sergeants were later identified as Behçet Avcı and Yunus Aktaş.

The two soldiers will to be laid to rest on July 1 in their hometowns.

Meanwhile, a wide-scale operation has begun to apprehend the PKK militants responsible for the attack.
