Two men were killed on Nov. 3 during clashes between security forces and locals in the Yüksekova district of the southeastern province of Hakkari.

Police conducted an operation in the Cumhuriyet neighborhood to fill in trenches and barricades built by alleged supporters of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK). Two men, identified as 18-year-old Çetin Dara and 20-year-old Doğan Doğma, were wounded in the clashes between security forces and members of the outlawed Patriotic Revolutionary Youth Movement (YDG-H), the PKK’s youth branch. Both succumbed to their injuries at Yüksekova State Hospital.

Tension has continued in the area, with residents standing guard in the Cumhuriyet neighborhood to prevent the return of the state security forces, according to local media reports.
