Two children killed after police vehicle crashes into house in Turkey’s southeast Two children were killed after a police vehicle crashed into a house in the Silopi district of the southeastern province of Şırnak late on May 3. 

The tragic incident occurred while the children were asleep, as the armored police vehicle crashed into the house, Doğan News Agency reported on May 4.

The vehicle crashed into the house in Silopi’s Karşıyaka neighborhood at around 11:50 p.m. for an unknown reason. The crashed caused the collapse of walls and columns in the building, killing Muhammet Yıldırım, 7, and Furkan Yıldırım, 6.

Riot police were sent to the scene after the deaths were reported and the dead bodies of the brothers were taken to the morgue of Silopi State Hospital. Their funerals were held on May 4 after an autopsy. 

Residents of the neighborhood have said the person driving the police vehicle was intoxicated.

No official statement has been released by the security forces regarding the allegations.

Doğan News Agency reported that the police vehicle was on duty to protect the local district building of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP).

The Şırnak Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office has launched an investigation into the incident.
