Two children injured in explosion of hand-made bomb in Turkey’s southeast

Two children were wounded due to the explosion of a hand-made and pipe-type bomb in the southeastern province of Diyarbakır on Dec. 4, state-run Anadolu Agency has reported.

The explosion occurred after a 13-year-old and an 11-year-old played with an object they found on the street in the İskenderpaşa neighborhood of Diyarbakır’s central Sur district.

The former lost two fingers in the blast and was taken to the Dicle University Hospital, while the latter was also injured and taken to the Selahattin Eyyubi State Hospital.

Police conducted investigations in the area after the blast occurred.

Earlier, an 11-year-old boy had died and two others were wounded on Oct. 11 due to the explosion of an unidentified object while they were playing in the southeastern province of Hakkari, Anadolu Agency reported.  
 
Three children had found the item at the site of the former Vali Erdoğan Gürbüz Primary School, which was damaged in armed clashes and later demolished in the Yüksekova district of Hakkari.  

The boy, identified as Umut Ayvalık, succumbed to his injuries after being taken to the Yüksekova State Hospital. 

Back on March 31 a similar incident also occurred in the Cizre district of the southeastern province of Şırnak, when four-year-old Harun Çağlı and six-year-old Ayşenur Geçit were killed in the explosion of an unidentified object.
