Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu conducted a phone conversation with Secretary of State John Kerry late June 30 to discuss regional developments in the aftermath of a deadly attack on Istanbul’s main airport.

Çavuşoğlu and Kerry discussed the ongoing fight against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) in Syria, diplomatic sources said, with Kerry expressing condolences over the recent terrorist attack that killed at least 44 people at Atatürk Airport. The two ministers also exchanged views about the unrest in Syria, sources said.

Çavuşoğlu also spoke with French Foreign Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault, who extended his sympathy to the Turkish people over the terror attack, sources said.
