President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed the recent developments on Syria during a phone conversation late on Oct. 5, days before they are set to meet in person in Turkey.
According to presidential sources, the two leaders comprehensively evaluated the recent developments in the war-torn country as efforts to bring about a permanent cessation of hostilities have remained futile. Sources underlined that both leaders expressed the importance of intensifying efforts to ending the conflict and of delivering humanitarian aid in Syria.

The leaders also reviewed the issues they will discuss when they meet in Istanbul on Oct. 10 on the sidelines of the World Energy Congress. Erdoğan and Putin discussed the importance they attach to ongoing cooperation on building the Akkuyu Nuclear Plant in the southern province of Mersin and the Turkish Stream pipeline project.

Erdoğan and Putin have increased the frequency of face-to-face meetings in recent months after they normalized bilateral relations in late June.
