Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu, President of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB), has been chosen as a new member of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC).

The ICC, which is based in Paris, represents the national committees of 89 different countries and has 124 member countries under its umbrella. International conglomerates like AT&T, British Tobacco, Shell, Procter and Gamble, and Unilever are also all members of the ICC.

“I am going to assume this post in the name of the Turkish business community. There is a three-year membership period. I will use this opportunity to transmit Turkey’s business concerns to this international platform,” said Hisarcıklıoğlu. “The ICC plays an active role in the G20. We are going to embark on our preparations for the B20 summits, which will be held in conjunction with the G20 summits in Russia in 2013, Australia in 2014 and in Turkey in 2015.”

The ICC was established in 1919 by Belgium, England, France, Italy and the United States after the First World War and was known as the “Peace Merchants.” There are 16 technical committees under the ICC.
