Turkish President Abdullah Gül welcomed the Fijian and Guatemalan ambassadors today to the Çankaya Presidential Palace.

Guatemala’s ambassador to Turkey, Lars Pira, and Fiji’s envoy, Robin Nair, delivered a letter of confidence to the president.

After his ambassador handed the letter, the head clerk of the Fijian embassy, Emosi Rakai, made a traditional gesture by bending down on his knees before the president and clapping his hands.

The gesture, called the “Vakacobocobo,” is a gesture to show somebody’s respect for a head of state.

Gül posed for cameras with the ambassadors afterwards.
