Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has congratulated U.S. President Obama on his re-election, hailing both candidates’ attitudes during elections during a visit to Indonesia, daily Hürriyet has reported.

“We have been colleagues for four years. I congratulate Obama. The successes of both [Obama and Republican candidate Mitt Romney] are praiseworthy. We appreciate the attitude they assumed. The same to us,” Erdoğan said.

“I believe that we can take more productive steps and improve the relationship between Turkey and the U.S because we know each other well,” Erdoğan said.

The prime minister also touched upon Obama’s speech, stressing the part that Obama said there was only one America and no blue and red states.
