Israel is guilty of conducting ethnic cleansing against Palestinians with six days of air strikes that have killed around 100 people, mostly civilians, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said today.

"I was in Egypt during the weekend. This was crucial at a time when Israel is continuing its bloody attack against Gaza. The world has to understand and seriously think about it. Israel is conducting ethnic cleansing in the region. It is occupying Palestinian soil step by step and Palestinians are using their right to defense,” he told the parliamentary group meeting of his ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), adding that they were obliged to take action over the ongoing events in Gaza.

"We have to struggle either with our hand, either with our tongue or with our heart,” he said. "If we're going to die, we have to die bravely like a man."

The prime minister also called on the West to do more. "I'm appealing to the West. Nobody can say Israel is conducting self-defense. Israel is terrorizing the Middle East. Is murdering a 4-year-old child self-defense?” Erdoğan asked, noting that reforms were needed on a U.N. Security Council that the prime minister said he no longer had any confidence in.

Erdoğan further addressed peace organizations, asking why organizations had not appeared in Gaza while they were following the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in Turkey.

“I am speaking to peace organizations in the world. People are talking about human rights. Do atheists come to mind when [people say] human rights?” Erdoğan said. “You follow the PKK in Turkey, you come [to Turkey] for them. Why aren’t you in Gaza? We have to ask this.”

@VMT Ankara. Seriously? Persecuting? Murdering men? Women? Where? In Israel? Arabs there live better than any other Arab in the ME, with their own schools, taught in Arabic that is a 2nd language in Israel (formal). One of the Israelis that died from the mortar yesterday was from the Bedouin tribes (Arabic) and was part of the security forces. Stealing land? There is a conflict and each side claims that he owns the land. Both Israelis and Palestinians build there. Why does only Israel steal?

Recep - I AGREE and have been posting to this effect continuously tho some don't show up on the forum. I am so tired of the admin not concentrating on the work to be done at home. As I said but not yet printed PM would be wiser to win votes at home, make friends with our Kurdish population than a non vote from the Palestinains. This is such a waste of his energy and ego. We have so many issues on the ground and need to concentrate on these first.

Please can anybody find any sense in this ranting along? What is he talking about? What ethinic cleansing? What threefold struggling of Turkey? What dieing bravely? I tell you, this man is not mentally normal any more! Egypt is neglecting him, US and UN and EU are reprehending him, while supporting Israels cause. It's more he can bear I think, it's the end of all his dreams as an important leader of the region. He should shut up, the more he talks the more damage to Turkey's reputation done.

Reply to Lior Uziel: Maybe if Israel would stop oppressing & persecuting Palestinians, like they have for over 4 decades, including murdering their men, women & children, stealing their land & water, bulldozing their homes to build illegal settlements & uprooting their trees & crops, maybe the Palestinians would stop firing rockets into Israel. Just imagine someone stealing your land, bulldozing your home and building another home you are not allowed to live in. Would you like or accept that?

Well the U.S. is now getting very familiar with Turkey. Turn on the news or the papers and there is Turkey's PM calling Israelis terrorists and claiming ethnic cleansing. Meanwhile, many are quick to point to the Kurds and Armenians so those who knew little of Turkey, now associate it as evil in their own right. Nice play Erdogan. People around the world need to understand the U.S. position with Israel and accept it. They are perceived as the little guy surrounded by bullies.

It sounds like Erdogan wants to be the leader of the Arab world with his lies.

Why cant he just shut up once in a while? He just keeps highlighting his shortcomings and how limited his influence is. He could not bring to justice a single murderer of Mavi Marmara. What he says has become irrelevant sadly, though he is more right than wrong.

The guy is crazy.... Probably insulted as he is not a part of any negotiation (as opposed to the responsibility that Egyptian leader is exercising)
