Turkey's Supreme Military Council (YAŞ) retired 40 generals who are currently under arrest in ongoing trials today.
The Council's decision was announced on the official website of the Turkish General Staff.
The arrested generals were awaiting promotion but their promotions were put on hold in last year's council. The Council's statement said the one-year waiting period for the generals had expired and they had to be retired due to lack of open positions.
A total of 47 colonels were promoted to generals and admirals, while 29 current generals and admirals received promotions.
The command structure of the Turkish Armed Forces did not change this year as none of the force commanders completed their terms in office or reached retirement age.

So who got vote and right from turkish people to run the country and decide about every thing in Turkey. Government or Army. Army is just to listen to order and obey it as they live on tax payers money not on votes. Please leave people and government to decide every thing otherwise look at PAKISTAN where army rule has broken country apart and it is at brink of civil war or chilie or Qadafi, Assad, Mubarak. Don't push turkey in darken age and dictch by favouring Generals

All what is to be said on this topic has already been said by the former comments. I only want to add, that you must not forget that the esteemed PM is amidst the 5 best friends of the Dancing Star in the White House. That's where he gets his strength from!

Now AKP owns it all, including all responsibility.

I'm not a Turk so I won't be too disrespectful but this is a travesty. If I were a Turk I'm sure I would have much stronger remarks about this shameful decision.

I wish we could retire the politicians.

This is how you conduct a purge in a "democracy". Arrest a large number of targeted military officers on suspicion, jail them, and after a suitable time retire them. Better than a bullet in the head, I guess, but given that they will never be fairly tried or released while healthy, it will amount to the same thing.

I would rather live happy with my family then be bribed by ERDOGAN to let him cripple the country it has become a joke. Is there no one with with pride and respect in TURKEY .
