A man who attempted to break up a fight between an official and two people who sought to go swimming in the Black Sea province of Zonguldak in their underwear has been taken to hospital after sustaining serious stab wounds.

Enver Gümüş was stabbed as he was trying to break a fight at Zonguldak’s blue-flag Kapuz Beach on Aug. 31.

Two brothers, M.K. and H.K., allegedly came drunk to the beach and attempted to enter the water dressed only in their underwear.

The official in charge of the beach, Abdullah Bakır, prevented the two brothers from entering the sea, but a fight soon erupted between the attendant and the brothers.

The two brothers and their friends started to kick and punch Bakır during the fight, prompting Gümüş to intervene.

M.K. allegedly returned to his car and returned with a knife, stabbing Gümüş.

Gümüş was taken to Zonguldak Atatürk State Hospital and was reported to be in critical condition.

Police have detained M.K. and launched an investigation into the incident.
