Republican People’s Party (CHP) spokesperson Haluk Koç has criticized the building of a wall along the Turkish-Syrian border between Turkey’s Nusaybin and Syria’s Qamishli districts.

“What are you aiming [to achieve] by building this wall? What kind of policy is this? Is it possible to secure peace and conciliation with this wall. You are building this wall in the middle of the hearts of our Kurdish brothers at this exact time,” Koç said, while indicating that Turkish and Syrian citizens of Kurdish origin were living in both border towns.

Ayşe Gökkan of the Peace and Democracy Party (BDP), who has been on hunger strike for seven days in protest at the wall, said the wall would divide the Kurdish people.
