Turkish jets hit PKK and YPG militants in SE Turkey

PKK and YPGmilitants who were attempting to infiltrate the vicinity of a military base in southeastern Turkey have been hit by Turkish air strikes, state-run Anadolu Agency reported on April 24.

Turkish jets targeted the militants in the southeastern Hakkari province bordering Iraq on April 19, according to the report.

Four Turkish soldiers were killed and six others were injured during the operation.

The PKK is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the European Union. Turkey deems the YPG as the PKK offshoot in Syria. Ankara has criticized the U.S. and some other countries for sending support to the group in its fight against ISIL in Syria.
