Turkish Football Federation protested with ‘gas tube’ by fans

Fans of Turkish football team Trabzonspor have staged a furious protest on Oct. 13 in front of the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) building in Istanbul against the federation’s stance regarding match-fixing and to demand that the 2010-11 Super League championship trophy be given to Trabzonspor.

Fans threw stones at the building and then they hauled down the TFF flag and hung up “a gas tube,” a reference to the TFF chief Yıldırım Demirören’s gas producing company.

Fenerbahçe was the champion of the 2010-2011 season, while Trabzonspor ranked second, but Fenerbahçe Chairman Aziz Yıldırım was found to have been involved in numerous match-fixing incidents that season and was sentenced to more than six years in jail in a match-fixing trial in July.

The fans demand the 2010-11 Super League championship trophy be taken from Fenerbahçe and given to Trabzonspor.
