The Family and Social Policies Ministry has called on parents to join Facebook and Twitter if their children have accounts.

The Family and Social Policies Ministry has called on parents to join Facebook and Twitter if their children have accounts, in a recently released book titled as “Family and Internet.”

“If your children have accounts in social media websites such as Facebook and Twitter, get accounts in these websites too. Get as much knowledge about the Internet as you can to guide your children about its use,” the ministry recommended to parents in the book.

“Young people and children should not know how to use the Internet more than their parents,” it added, also calling on families to have “strong passwords” for their all their online accounts to guard against online viruses, hackers and defrauders.

It also urged parents to pay attention to whether their children use swear words in English, saying this might be a signal that they are playing too many computer games. It stated that parents should introduce their children to nature and psychical activities before introducing them to technology.
