An F-16 fighter aircraft belonging to the Turkish Air Force crashed today on landing in the southeast of the country.

The jet, part of the 2nd Air Force Command based in the southeastern province of Diyarbakır, crashed, Deputy Gov. Ahmet Günaydın told Anadolu Agency. He said the plane's engine caught fire during landing.

The Turkish General Staff said in a written statement that the sole pilot on the plane ejected herself from the plane and the exact cause of the accident was yet to be known. It said the flyer was in good health
condition.
