KİLİS
Turkish artillery shells PYD positions in northern Syria after harassment fire Turkish artillery retaliated against a harassment fire by the Syrian Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD) opened from northern Syria on July 14, shelling its positions in the region near the border, Doğan News Agency has reported.

A harassment fire was opened from the PYD-controlled Parsa Mount region in northern Syria to the Turkish side of the border province of Kilis in the morning hours.

The artillery units stationed in Kilis immediately shelled PYD positions in the region within the rules of engagement.

The sound of the shellings was also heard in the city center as smokes rose from the region after the fire.

Ankara sees the PYD and its armed wing, the People’s Protection Units (YPG), as being organically linked to the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).
