Turkish Airlines has cancelled all flights to New York and Washington due to severe weather conditions, according to Doğan news agency.

The U.S.’s East Coast has been on high alert for the past few days due to the approaching Hurricane Sandy, which may have a potentially brutal impact on major cities in the region.

The hurricane claimed 11 lives earlier in eastern Cuba. On Oct. 24, Sandy unleashed its wrath on Jamaica, where one person died, and on Haiti, where 44 people were killed. Two people were reported dead in the Dominican Republic and one in the Bahamas.
