BUSINESS > Turkish Airlines’ profits boom by 665 percent

Turkish Airlines, the country’s rapidly growing national flag carrier, increased its net profits in the first nine months of the year to 868 million Turkish Liras, 665 percent up from the same period a year earlier.

Its sales also increased 30 percent to 11.2 billion liras in the given period, the company said in a filing to the Istanbul Stock Exchange (İMKB) today. The core operating income rose to 1.08 billion liras.

Dogan FYI Some members of the hospitality industry have claimed a six or seven-star rating for their operation. As no organization or formal body awards or recognizes any rating over five-star deluxe,[9] such claims are meaningless and predominantly used for advertising purposes. The Burj Al Arab hotel in Dubai is widely described as a "seven-star" property, but the hotel says the label originates from an unnamed British journalist on a press trip.

MURAT N Why would the Turkish Airlne industry be any different than anything else in Turkey? Turks cut corners where ever they can. Best food- they served shrimp on an international flight I was on, and you know how many people are deathly allergic to seafood? So by saying the employees cannot strike, you imply the TA made these gains on the backs of their workers? Now that is admirable. I am not here to smudge the reputation of TA at all, BUT this just doesn't add up. I fly TA.

DOGAN Now who is showing their ignorance. The rating system only goes to 5. Many tout their hotels as 7 star, and the accomplishment in Dubai is an engineering fete to be sure, BUT the others simply have "seven star" in their names! NOT throught the international rating system. I do get out and can say that Ciragan Palace is probably one of the best 5 star hotels in the World, but 7?

The first seven star hotel was built on an artificial island in Dubai and is called The Burj Al Arab.The hotel is an architectural masterpiece and has the tallest atrium in the world and looks like the mast of a ship from a distance.This inspired Turkiye to build the Mardan Palace Hotel which some people beleive is the finest hotel in the world.You clearly need to get around a bit more Mara Mcgolthlin your reputation as a know all is in serious jepordy.

Companies profits are taxable so most companies use creative accounting to limit their profit declerations in order to diminish their liabilities.So THY are declaring the profits they have to and in fact could be more. The balance sheet of a company have to be studied before any statement about them can be made.So I am to assume Johanna Dew,NicosT and Mara Mcglothlin have now become actuarists and accountants to justify the statements they have made about a honest and well managed Turkish co.

Seven star hotels ? . Yes all over the world . China, Dubai, Abu dhabi , India. Don't be in too much of a hurry criticize . As for safety they have to maintain international standards . Turkish airline also maintains Lufthansa aircraft. Your attempts to smudge TA reputation is childish.

I follow Turkish Airline closely. The figures should not be suprising . If anything it was to be expected. Load factor up 5% compared to last year ,while expanding routes and increasing the number of aircraft . Fuel and labour costs maintained with new Aircraft and labour unions kept at bay with a law banning strikes. Selected best airline in Europe and awards for the best food in the sky with a little help from DoCo. Last year was terrible for them with oil price and wrong aircraft mix

@Brit: onl when sales is now 600 and costs are 0.001 the figures will be ok. And nobody is going to believe. Funny..does m name sounds Jewish? Nothing wrong with but I am not...

Johanna Dew. Let's take a simple example: Sales were 100, now 130, costs were 90, now 60. Thus profit was 10, now 70. There may have been an exception outgoing last year?
