Turkish Airlines eyes Czech national carrier

Czech Airlines, which owns a fleet of 30 aircraft, posted $17 million in loss in 2010.

Turkey’s national carrier, Turkish Airlines (THY), may be interested in partnering with Czech Airlines, according to reports in the Czech media.

THY has not announced any official deal so far, but did say “they were open to considering all options,” hinting that a deal could be on the way.

A deal is expected to take place in the second half of the year, according to daily Habertürk, but there are also other airlines interested in a partnership with Czech Airlines, including Etihad, Emirates Airlines and Qatar Airways.

The Turkish carrier is close to starting talks to acquire LOT Polish Airlines, which is set to be privatized after the company posted $17 million in losses in 2010.

Czech Airlines, one of Europe’s oldest airlines, was established in 1923 and has a fleet of 31 planes. The carrier flies to 135 destinations in 48 different countries.
