Turkish Airlines cancels flights to and from Miami due to Hurricane Matthew

Turkish Airlines cancels flights to and from Miami due to Hurricane Matthew Turkish Airlines suspended a flight from Istanbul to Miami and a flight from Miami to Istanbul on Oct. 6 as deadly Hurricane Matthew is expected to hit the U.S. coastal city.

Turkish Airlines announced the suspensions on its website amid anticipations that the hurricane was about to hit the city.

“Due to the likelihood of Hurricane Matthew affecting Miami on Oct. 6, 2016, the flights found below have been canceled,” said the announcement, while the company also found various hotels for 190 passengers stranded in Istanbul.

Matthew has so far caused overall 27 deaths, 23 in Haiti and four in the Dominican Republic. 

In its latest bulletin, the U.S.-based National Hurricane Center reported that Matthew was “pounding portions of the central Bahamas” with winds up to 185 kilometers per hour.

U.S. President Barack Obama warned Americans in the storm’s path to take the threat seriously.
