Republican People’s Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu repeated the 12 items they had mentioned for the solution of the Kurdish conflict, while refusing claims that the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) was the only authority to solve the issue.

Speaking in the eastern province of Diyarbakır during a meeting titled “We are building the future together: Diyarbakır” organized by his party, Kılıçdaroğlu said Nov. 29 that presenting the AKP as the only party capable solving the three-decade-long Kurdish issue without any other alternatives was a lie.

“[Presenting the AKP as the only alternative in the peace bid] is one of the biggest lies I have seen. Why aren’t there alternatives to solve this problem?” asked Kılıçdaroğlu, adding the CHP had already put forth items toward solving this issue.

“I ask those who say [the CHP is not an alternative], is it because we said the following: lowering the political party election threshold to 3 percent or “making it zero” if wanted, turning the current prison in Diyarbakır into a democracy and human rights museum rather than constructing a modern prison, maintaining the suitable conditions for the return of the victims of forced migration from the region, finding the perpetrators of the Roboski massacre and all of the unsolved murders, cleaning the land of mines, eliminating the village guard system and giving these guards new jobs, giving credit to whoever helps in solving this problem, applying the European Charter of Local Self-government, saying the peace process should be transparent, sincere and on a parliamentary basis, not conducting politics over beliefs and constructing a hospital in Hakkari, rather than [purchasing] anti-riot vehicles [TOMA] for Diyarbakır,” said Kılıçdaroğlu.
