Turkey seeks info from Egyptian authorities regarding alleged arms seizure in Egypt

ANKARA
Turkey has sought information from the Egyptian authorities on the alleged seizure of arms found in a shipping container in Port Said that had departed from Turkey.

“Through our embassy in Cairo, we have requested that the Egyptian authorities convey concrete information to us with regard to the alleged arms seizure, in order to launch the necessary examination and investigation,” Foreign Ministry spokesperson Levent Gümrükçü said in a written statement on Dec. 17.

Egypt’s Ahram Online news agency and El-Mehwar TV reported on Dec. 15 that Egyptian police had seized 1,500 blank firing guns and bullets in a container in Port Said that had originated from Turkey.

Such allegations should be examined immediately for the facts to be clarified, Gümrükçü's statement added.
