Turkey and Qatar have signed a goodwill agreement for the education of Syrian refugees at a ceremony attended by Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, the mother of Qatar’s emir and the operator of a foundation supporting educational activities.

The signing ceremony held in Ankara on Oct. 22 came a day after Sheikha Moza, along with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s wife, Emine Erdoğan, visited refugee camps in Turkey's southern border province of Gaziantep.

Sheikha Moza, mother of Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, is chairing a foundation named Education Above All.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Numan Kurtulmuş said the Qatari foundation would cooperate with the Prime Ministry’s Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) in the field of education in third countries.

The same foundation will also cooperate with Turkey’s disaster agency (AFAD), for the education of Syrian refugees, Kurtulmuş said.

“I believe that the goodwill agreement with Qatar will further advance the already sincere and friendly relations between the two countries,” he said.
