Turkey broke its all-time natural gas usage record on Jan. 25-26, as 235 million cubic meters were used across the country due to cold weather.

More than 1.1 billion cubic meters (bcm) of gas was consumed during the period of Jan. 25-29, hitting another record on a weekly basis, according to data compiled by Anadolu Agency from the Energy Ministry.

The earlier daily record was broken on Jan. 4 with around 221 million cubic meters of gas consumption, mainly due to the cold weather that brought life to a standstill in many cities.

Turkey buys most of it gas from Russia, Iran and Azerbaijan, as well as more moderate amounts of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Algeria and Nigeria. The country generates around half of its power needs from natural gas.
