Turkey earns $1.73 bln from hazelnut

ISTANBUL – Anadolu Agency
Turkey, the world’s largest hazelnut supplier, earned $1.73 billion from hazelnut exports in 2013, Istanbul Hazelnut and Products Exporters Association announced yesterday.

The country shipped more than 276,000 tons of hazelnuts to almost 110 countries in 2013, the association said in a written statement.

The European Union, Turkey’s largest export market, constitutes the biggest share in Turkey’s hazelnut export as well.

In 2012, Turkey had exported 265,000 tons of hazelnuts and obtained an income of $1.8 billion, the second-highest yearly income for the item after 2005, in which it totaled $1.9 billion exports.

Turkey holds a large part of the world’s hazelnut production and exports.
