Turkey could consider paying compensation if demanded by Russian pilot’s family: Kalın

ANKARA
Turkey could consider paying compensation if demanded by Russian pilot’s family: Kalın The option to pay compensation could be reviewed if the family of the downed Russian jet pilot demands it, Turkish Presidential Spokesperson İbrahim Kalın said on June 28.

“If there is a request from the family of the late Russian pilot, this issue could be discussed,” Kalın told reporters in the capital Ankara.

However, Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım refuted on June 28 that paying compensation and apologizing to Russia over the jet downing incident is “out of the question.”

Previously, he had said Ankara could pay compensation to Russia if necessary.

“We will pay compensation if required and we want relations to return to normal. The essence of the matter is that. It is not a unilateral will but mutual,” Yıldırım told TRT late on June 27.
