Turkey condemns Israel settlements

ANKARA
Turkey condemns Israel settlements Turkey has condemned Israel’s approval of the construction of 560 additional units as they are “illegal settlements on Palestinian territories that it keeps under occupation,” a Foreign Ministry statement said Jan. 23.

“Israel’s continuation of the said policy despite U.N. Security Council Resolution No. 2334 dated Dec. 23, 2016, which condemned illegal settlement activities and put on record that such activities destroy the ground for a two-state solution, is another indication of its disregard for international law and the international community,” read the statement.

Israel has approved hundreds of new settlements in East Jerusalem after the staunchly pro-Israeli Donald Trump took office as U.S. president.

The Israeli Prime Ministry reportedly delayed approval due to the opposition of Barack Obama, who infuriated Israel by permitting a U.N. resolution against settlements to pass.
