The president of Turkey’s Supreme Election Board (YSK) has announced the calendar for the upcoming presidential election.

“The temporary candidate lists for the presidency will be published on July 8 and the final candidate lists will be published on July 11 in the Official Gazette. The electioneering period will begin after these lists are published,” Sadi Güven told reporters on May 6.

The two-round elections, during which Turks will directly vote for the president for the first time ever, are scheduled to take place on Aug. 10 and Aug. 24.

Meanwhile, according to the final results announced by the YSK president, the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) received 45.54 percent of the total votes in the metropolitan city elections during the March 30 local elections, while the main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) received 31. 04 percent and the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) received 13.65 percent.
