Three police officers have been wounded when militants from the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) opened fire on their patrol in southeastern Diyarbakır province.

Two PKK militants opened fire at a police car on patrol duty near a maternity and pediatric hospital in the Bağcılar neighborhood of Diyarbakır’s central Bağlar province.

Three police officers were wounded in the attack while reports indicated the health condition of one of the officers was critical. All three were transferred to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Meanwhile, the assailants fled the scene of the attack in a car, which was later found by the police deserted with one of the militants dead inside.

As security officials believe the attack was staged by two militants, an operation has been launched into capturing the second assailant.
