A teaser poster released yesterday for the 2012 summer blockbuster "The Dark Knight Rises," had the caped crusader's fans worried for his well-being.

The poster, which does not feature "the Dark Knight" at all, shows a shattered Batman mask laying on the ground with villain "Bane" walking away from it in the background.

"Bane," played by "Inception" star Tom Hardy, is the main villain in Christopher Nolan's upcoming end to the Batman trilogy. The hulking villain is famous in comic book circles for breaking Batman's back in a vicious fight.

The trilogy-ender’s plot takes places nine years after the events of the series’ second installment, “The Dark Knight,” where Batman battled his insane arch-nemesis “The Joker,” played by actor Heath Ledger, who had died before the movie premiered.

"The Dark Knight Rises" is set to hit the cinemas in the U.S. July 20, 2012.
