Textile atelier fire in southeastern province of Gaziantep kills two

GAZİANTEP
A fire at a manufacturing facility in the southeastern province of Gaziantep has killed two people and injured 45 others.

The fire erupted on the morning of Nov. 7, due to unknown reasons, and spread throughout the whole building which houses a number of textile and garment ateliers, Doğan News Agency reported.

The two people who died in the fire were identified as workers Mehmet Alakırık, 21, and İsmail Gemici, 57.

Seven people are reported to be in severe condition.

A man, who was also thought to be dead, as he lost all of his vital functions, was resuscitated in the hospital. 

People who were affected from the smoke are being treated by hospitals in the region.

Deputy governor Mehmet Taşdöğen said the authorities managed to prevent more losses by reaching the fires in three to four minutes.

Investigations are continuing to establish the cause of the large fire, Prosecutor Mustafa Peker told Anadolu Agency after completing checks at the site of the incident.
