A Turkish court decided the arrest of a 38-year-old man with charges of “intended murder,” Doğan news agency has reported. M.N. detained in Istanbul’s Fatih district on assault charges in connection with recent attacks on elderly Armenian women in Istanbul’s Samatya neighborhood.

The suspect, identified as M.N., is a Turkish citizen of Armenian origin and was detained as a suspect in five attacks, one of which resulted in death. The suspect lives alone and allegedly committed the assaults for theft, according to unnamed sources.

M.N. was detained by the police on March 2 after one of the victims identified him. A judge in an Istanbul court decided the arrest of the suspect who was set to send to Metris prison later.

Blood on envelope

On Dec. 28, 2012, Maritsa Küçük was stabbed seven times before her throat was slit at her home in Samatya. Two other attacks were carried out in the same month against elderly Armenian women in the Samatya and Bakırköy districts as well.

One of the women, 87-year-old Turfanda Aşık, lost an eye, while the other woman was robbed and severely injured.

Most recently, 84-year-old Sultan Akyar was attacked in Samatya, after which she underwent eye surgery. The blood on an envelope found in Maritsa Küçük’s bag belongs to M.N., the agency said, adding that the women who survived the attacks in Samatya identified M.N. as the assailant.

However, the evidence found in the attack against Vehbiye Ö., 80, who was severely wounded in the Şişli district of Istanbul, did not match with suspect M.N., the agency said. Police are continuing their investigation to find the Şişli suspect.

After the suspect’s blood samples matched the blood found in Maritsa Küçük’s bag, he was questioned again. In his second questioning, he gave a detailed testimony about the incidents, according to the daily. M.N., detained twice before for theft, previously worked at tea houses as a cleaner but had been unemployed for some time.

The police are conducting a very detailed investigation to find the attacker in the Samatya district. Police discovered that M.N. had been stalking his victims long before carrying out the attacks.

@ Ferit, your insistence on making this a racial issue says more about you than about the ones who are simply pointing out the facts (like I did). I also NEVER denied there are hate crimes .. show me a "single" country .. just ONE where hate crimes don't happen. Your comments pretty much show, "who hates who" even after substantial evidence you refuse to accept it. Fact is people like you hoped for a hate crime .. which is really sad.

@Uzan - You are the one who suggests conspiracies. Just because I say something is fishy, I in no way imply conspiracy, but of course those with delusional thoughts will indeed suggest otherwise. Everyone has a right to be suspicious of the Turkish Justice system. You cannot deny there are hate crimes, but then again, you cannot deny there are people who absolutely reject that notion.

Anyway, I am extremely happy this sick person got caught .. no matter what his race is or what the race of his victims are. They are elderly women, what kind of a sick man attacks elderly women .. Instead of making this a blame game, how about we protect our elders hand in hand .. it sickens me that certain people still insist on making a racial issue out of this

@ Ferit, yea sure, I guess the Armenian women that identified him was also part of the "conspiracy" .. all the evidence must be forged by those evil Turks?! I dare to bet my life on the fact that if you place 20 elderly women from Turkey of whom 3 Armenians you cannot pick the Armenians from the crowd. But you know better Ferit, you are obviously and expert.

Well, sometimes murder is just a murder, Ferit Pasha!

Why is the title still implying these murders were racially motivated, FIRST of all, everyone seems to forget the 2 elderly TURKISH women who also got assaulted, which should already prove this was not a hate crime. Yet these clowns in the picture decided to make an elephant out of a fly. Second of all, the suspect is Armenian him self! @ Ferit, Yeah sure, it's ALL a conspiracy.. They even attacked Turkish women to make it more convincing! Hate crimes exist in "every" single country on earth

Now, that is a twist!

I find it hard to believe elderly people of Armenian origin would be brutality murdered for any other reason than a racial one, which is why this situation seems a little fishy. If this "Turkish citizen of Armenian origin" is in fact the murderer, this by no means can be used as proof to say "Look! there's no hate crimes in Turkey!" I'm sure every Armenian in Turkey can tell you one experience.

if this armenian origin suspect is found guilty then people will stop moaning about racist murders especially some hdn readers who are ready to blame turks in such cases.

Excellent, now Turkish citizens of Armenian origin can again sleep tight. Interestingly enough, the Armenian activists (ANCA, Armenews-P. Nicolaides, etc) of the diaspora disseminated false propaganda to alert different institutions, claiming that these "racist" acts against these elderly women were perpetrated by the Turkish government. As seen, the murderer Murat Nazaryan, is of Armenian decent! To my Armenian friends I would say: try to raise your above your genocidal confinement.
