One male suspect, who has been the focus of an ongoing police search over connections to the murder of 19 year-old Fenerbahçe fan Burak Yıldırım, was found and detained at a side road facility in Kırşehir, according to Doğan News Agency.

Y.O has been identified through investigation following the murder, which took place as Burak was heading home from the metrobus station after the derby match between Galatarsaray and Fenerbahçe, and was caught while he was attempting to flee Istanbul and reach his hometown Bingöl in eastern Turkey.

Officers are now bringing Y.O. back to Istanbul.

Istanbul Police Chief Hüseyin Çapkın told reporters that the suspect’s uncle gave the police officers a bloody jersey, which was allegedly worn by the 20-year-old during the assault. “The suspect has three prior convictions, and he did not know the victim,” Çapkın said according to the Doğan News Agency. “His only motive behind the murder seems to be the football rivalry, which is really sad,” he added.

I find it sad that people attack Fenerbahce when it was a Fenerbahce fan that got stabbed to death by a Galatasaray fan. It shows where the priorities lie with Turkey. Alledged racism is worse than an actual murder.

With respect CEZER, while there may well be animosity on both sides, GS fans do have a history of unprovoked knife attacks against rival supporters in Istanbul, which on Sunday night claimed a 3rd life. FB fans were also stabbed by them at Zincirlikuyu metrobus station last season, but fortunately weren't killed. And we all know about the 2 Leeds fans. Yet they keep blaming everyone except themselves, which is offensive, & why nothing changes. FB fans do not have these murderous tendencies, FACT

MİSTİQUE, you appear to be deeply confused, as usual. Why are you offering your condolences to GS fans, when it is they who murdered the FB supporter? And in which prior incidents did you see Volkan behaving like an "animal"? He is usually very placid, but this time Sabri was determined to provoke him & Volkan foolishly rose to it. Animals? How about Melo's famous dog peeing simulation after scoring against Fener last season? How many GS fans got stabbed as a result of that disrespect? NONE!!!

@mistique holland - do you know what you are commenting on? The supporter was for Fenerbahce. And as you can see, the Fenerbahce players, administration, and supporters are not the only ones "acting like animals". All in all, the sport here has turned into a shameful disgrace and really giving a negative image of the Turkish society.

We should also blame this murder on the both team's administrators, managers and players, including players from Africa and Europe. This tension started with the refusal of applauding the champions, escalated with the behavior of the players during the game. This has to stop.

I want to express my deepest concoleances to this boy's family, friends and other Galatasaray supporters. This was an act of madness. I saw Aziz Yildirim the day before in his hatred against Galatasaray,I saw the game and saw the hate of V. Demirel, Feners goalkeeper. This is not the first time that he acts like an animal on the field and Aziz off the field. Referees in Turkey should send them of the pit, andTFF should punish them much harder. They are part of this hate towards other teams. Sick.

Leave this cowardly, sub-human scumbag to rot in a jail cell until the day he dies. If I was writing in Turkish, I would be using the verb 'gebermek', rather than 'ölmek' to express this feeling. Well done to the police for tracking it down and catching it so quickly. Rest in Peace Burak Yıldırım, you will never be forgotten by the Fenerbahçe community to which you showed so much loyalty and devotion during your short life.

Disgusting animal. He has three prior convictions? Maybe this time he can get what he really deserves!
